RRI.CO.ID, Bogor: Kembang goyang (Indonesian flower-shape fried snack) is one of the legendary snacks loved by many people. This crispy treat is often served at celebrations and family gatherings. It is especially beloved in rural communities.
Kembang goyang is made from a basic dough of rice flour (sometimes mixed with wheat flour/tapioca), eggs, sugar, coconut milk, and a little salt, then molded with a special flower-shaped mold and fried until crispy.
Tariah (65), a resident of Palasari Hamlet, Tanjung Sari Village, Cijeruk Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java Province, has faithfully made this snack for 20 years. Her experience has made her kembang goyang savory, sweet, crunchy, and full of love.
"At first, I only made it for my family and neighbors, but over time, more and more people started ordering it. Even now, many still come to my house, although I also buy it from stalls around the Cijeruk Subdistrict," Mrs. Tariah said on Monday, January 19, 2026.
In addition to making kembang goyang, Tariah also makes various traditional village snacks, such as peanut rempeyek, green bean rempeyek, salted fish rempeyek, and banana chips, all of which are affordable.
"I still make kembang goyang because it's well-known. With this product, I can support my family, although the profit is not much," she explained.
Tariah's kembang goyang costs IDR 5,000 per pack of eight pieces. The price per kilogram is IDR 60,000. Besides kembang goyang, banana chips are sold for IDR. 12,000 per pack, and rempeyek is priced at IDR 5,000 per pack. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
