KBRN, Jakarta: Mochi and dim sum are gaining traction across Indonesia, not only as popular snacks but also as lucrative business ventures.
Viona Alliza Diandra Putri, the owner of Mochi Moe Moe in Jakarta, offers over 42 flavor variants—some accompanied by a unique mochi sauce made from whipped cream blended with flavored powders such as green tea.
“Mochi Moe Moe also features savory mochi, which has proven highly popular. We sell up to 250 boxes a week, each containing 30 pieces priced at IDR 150,000 (approx. USD 9.26),” Viona said during an interview with state-run radio station PRO 3 RRI on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Her mochi products are available at 15 locations throughout Greater Jakarta, including Blok M, Kalibata, Pamulang, and several MRT stations.
To maintain high standards, Viona regularly conducts trials and has revised the recipe multiple times to achieve optimal results.
Meanwhile, in Bekasi, Inez Sukandar runs Mysha by Inez Kitchen Dimsum, a business with 13 branches—both online and offline. Her dim sum is celebrated for its authentic taste, achieved by using fresh ingredients, minimal flour, and no preservatives.
“Our bestsellers are the beef dim sum and our house-made mentai sauce, a blend of mayonnaise and mentaiko [spicy cod or pollock roe]. It started as an experiment, but rising demand quickly turned it into a dine-in business,” said Inez in her interview with PRO 3 RRI.
Dim sum prices range from IDR 19,000 to IDR 275,000, with a 14-piece combo pack for three to five people priced at IDR 75,000.
To ensure consistent quality, Inez implements strict standard operating procedures, trains her staff intensively, and sources certified local ingredients.
Both entrepreneurs stress the importance of consistency, innovation, and leveraging social media in building successful culinary businesses. According to them, the biggest challenges lie in maintaining human resource quality and navigating fierce competition.
Inez advises business owners not to be discouraged by slow sales, urging them to evaluate strategies and stay active on social media continuously.
Viona underscores customer satisfaction as a top priority, warning that a single negative experience could drive customers elsewhere. She believes taste and service must remain steady at all times.
Today, Mochi Moe Moe and Mysha Dim Sum are widely available across Greater Jakarta and can also be ordered online. ***
