RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's cryptocurrency market continued to grow in August 2026, with both consumer accounts and transaction values increasing, according to the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

OJK Executive Director for Supervision of Financial Sector Technology Innovation, Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets, Adi Budiarso, said the number of consumer accounts trading crypto assets reached 23.21 million in August, up 1.23 percent month-on-month (mtm).

"Meanwhile, the value of crypto asset transactions reached IDR 23.16 trillion in August 2026, an increase of 12.87 percent month-on-month. The transaction value of digital financial asset derivatives was recorded at Rp4.56 trillion, up 33.76 percent month-on-month," Adi said during a press conference on the Financial Services Sector Assessment and OJK Policy following the September 2026 Monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting in Jakarta on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Amid fluctuations in transaction values, OJK believes public confidence in the digital financial asset ecosystem, including crypto assets, remains strong and continues to improve. According to the regulator, this indicates that crypto assets remain attractive to the public.

Adi said Indonesia's crypto industry success should not be measured solely by global rankings or transaction volumes, but also by efforts to build a healthy, secure, and high-integrity ecosystem that contributes to the national economy.

The enactment of Law No. 4/2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK) has also provided a stronger legal foundation for financial technology innovation, digital financial assets, and crypto assets.

"Therefore, OJK continues to strengthen the implementation of this regulation, enhance market infrastructure and encourage innovation through the regulatory sandbox," Adi said.

OJK is also encouraging the more productive use of digital assets and strengthening financial sector deepening. Innovations such as real-asset tokenization, rupiah-backed stablecoins, digital asset custody services and crypto fund management are expected to be introduced after the relevant OJK regulations are finalized later this year or in early 2027.

"The direction of future development is not only to make crypto assets more attractive as investment instruments, but also to make Indonesia's digital asset ecosystem more trustworthy. At the same time, we will continue to promote innovation and competitiveness, including strengthening sovereignty within Indonesia's crypto asset and digital financial asset ecosystem," Adi said. ***
