RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Red chili prices rose again on Sunday, October 4, 2026, reaching 100,000 rupiah per kilogram in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. The price increase came after a sharp drop earlier this week.

Early morning prices were around 23,000 rupiah per quarter kilogram, translating to roughly 90,000–92,000 rupiah per kilogram. By midday, the price increased to 25,000 rupiah per quarter kilogram, or around 100,000 rupiah per kilogram.

Other chili varieties also remained expensive. Bird’s eye chili was around 68,000 rupiah per kilogram, green chili reached 45,000 rupiah, and local caplak chili was around 90,000 rupiah per kilogram.

On Friday and Saturday, red chili prices had dropped to around 60,000–75,000 rupiah per kilogram. The lower prices were recorded in Medan, Deli Serdang, and surrounding areas.

The latest increase is linked to lower local supply. Field monitoring found that the chili harvest in several Deli Serdang production areas had wrapped up the previous week.

Meanwhile, red chili shipments from Takengon, Aceh, to the Lau Cih wholesale market in Medan have started to arrive. Shipments can reach around eight tons per night, but deliveries to Medan remain inconsistent.

Demand from Riau, the Riau Islands, and other parts of Sumatra could strain Aceh’s chili supply. Weather uncertainty, including possible El Niño effects, could also disrupt production and push prices higher.
