RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Red chili prices surged sharply in traditional markets across Medan today. Monitoring data shows prices reaching eighty-five thousand rupiahs per kilogram.
Local residents and small grocery shops now face prices exceeding ninety thousand rupiahs. Field reports from Deli Serdang show prices trading at eighty-eight thousand rupiahs per kilogram.
Some unverified social media reports claim prices have even hit one hundred thousand rupiahs. Meanwhile, bird's eye chili prices are also climbing significantly across the region.
Retail prices for bird's eye chili range from sixty-seven thousand to seventy thousand rupiahs per kilogram. This price hike stems directly from declining local supplies and the end of the harvest season.
Supply shortages fail to meet consumer demand, driving prices higher across the region. High chili prices will likely persist through the beginning of October.
Market pressure is projected to ease by the third week of next month. Prices might even experience a slight drop ahead of the weekend trading session.
Regional supply dependencies and dry weather challenges continue to complicate food price controls. High chili prices will remain a short-term reality for local households.
