- Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that green energy and digital development serve as Indonesia's primary growth engines, positioning the nation to become energy self-sufficient.
- The government is prioritizing a 100 gigawatt-peak power capacity, over 47,000 circuit-kilometers of transmission networks, and leveraging strategic mineral wealth.
RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that green energy and digital development have become the two main growth engines for Indonesia's economy. He conveyed this at the Investor trust National Seminar titled "Green Economy 2045: Making the Green Economy a New Growth Engine Towards an Inclusive, Competitive, and Sustainable Golden Indonesia" in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
"So this is a twin engine between green energy and digital development, and this is an opportunity for Indonesia to become a host of energy in its own country," he said.
To support this, Airlangga stated that the government is prioritizing energy affordability and increasing power plant capacity up to 100 gigawatt-peak. In addition, the development of transmission lines spanning more than 47,000 circuit-kilometers is also being prepared to strengthen the national electricity infrastructure.
According to the Minister, the availability of this green energy also serves as an important foundation for developing the data center industry and the high-value electric vehicle ecosystem. The government has also introduced the Village Electricity program, which completed 1,500 locations in 2025 and targets reaching 4,390 locations in 2026.
"If all of this runs, our electrification will approach above 99 percent and the energy resilience index will also increase to 7.13. Energy is still the largest contributor to emissions, which is why Mr. President is pushing for that 100-gigawatt program," Airlangga stated.
The potential for green economy development is also supported by Indonesia's wealth of strategic mineral resources, such as nickel, tin, bauxite, copper, gold, and coal. The development of the electric vehicle ecosystem is also one of the sectors with a value-added potential of 67 times with a demand of US$5.91 trillion by 2045.
Interest from various countries, such as the European Union, the United States, and Canada, to cooperate with Indonesia in the field of critical minerals is also evident. Through these various strategic steps, Indonesia is optimistic about becoming a major player in the global energy transition.
