RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is opening up investment opportunities worth IDR 2,133.7 trillion (approximately USD 118.68 billion) through the implementation of its 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), which calls for an additional 69.5 gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity.

“The implementation of the RUPTL opens up investment opportunities of approximately IDR 2,133.7 trillion, including around IDR 1,341.8 trillion for new and renewable energy (NRE) through the independent power producer (IPP) scheme,” Secretary of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming and Secretary of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) M. Rudy Salahuddin said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Under the 2025–2034 RUPTL, the planned additional capacity of 69.5 GW consists of 42.6 GW, or 61 percent, from NRE sources, 10.3 GW, or 15 percent, from energy storage, and 16.6 GW, or 24 percent, from fossil-fuel power plants.

Rudy said solar power plants account for the largest share of additional NRE capacity at 17.1 GW.

The expansion of the power generation sector is also projected to create more than 836,000 jobs, including over 760,000 green jobs.

Indonesia has renewable energy potential of around 3,687 GW, including approximately 3,294 GW from solar power.

However, only around 16.33 GW of renewable energy capacity had been utilized as of 2026, representing less than 0.5 percent of the country’s total potential.

According to Rudy, the figures highlight substantial investment opportunities in power generation, transmission networks, energy storage and supporting industries.

He added that access to cleaner energy is becoming increasingly important for attracting investment in future industries, including data centers, green industrial estates, low-carbon transportation, hydrogen production, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green ammonia and the circular economy.

“With a cleaner energy base, Indonesia can open opportunities for future industries such as green ammonia, CCS/CCUS, the carbon market and the circular economy. The impact will not only be additional investment, but also quality jobs, more competitive exports and a stronger position for Indonesia in the global supply chain,” Rudy said. ***
