RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has prepared draft regulations to establish the Strategic Minerals and Commodities Exchange (BMKS). One regulation governs the transition period, while the other regulates the operation of the exchange.

OJK Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, said OJK is scheduled to coordinate with the House of Representatives’ Commission XI and Danantara Indonesia on the regulations.

“Next week we will hold discussions with Commission XI, as the law stipulates that we must also obtain approval from them,” she said in Jakarta on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The OJK has prepared all draft regulations but has not yet disclosed their detailed contents, including the types of strategic minerals and commodities that will be listed on the BMKS.

Friderica said the BMKS is intended to serve as a reference for setting prices for strategic minerals and commodities. A domestic exchange is expected to make the price-setting process more transparent.

According to her, this mechanism can also help the government address practices such as under‑invoicing and transfer pricing. “So, with this exchange in place, we view it as a transparent price discovery mechanism,” she said.

The OJK is also studying commodity exchange mechanisms in several countries, including Shanghai and London. The study aims to establish the BMKS as a credible and reliable price reference.

Friderica noted that Indonesia holds a strategic position as a producer of several minerals and strategic commodities worldwide. However, the pricing of these commodities still largely relies on foreign exchanges.

She emphasized that the establishment of the BMKS is ultimately intended to provide greater public benefit through the transparent management of Indonesia’s natural resources.

Regarding the obligation for businesses to conduct transactions through the BMKS, the OJK has not provided further details, including the transaction mechanisms for both export and domestic markets. (Gusti Panji)
