RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – In June 2027, Jakarta will have its first extended concourse near Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI), similar to underground concourses in other countries. The partition walls at the existing MRT Bundaran HI exit area will be removed and directly connected to the extended concourse, which spans around 4,400 square meters.
This extended concourse is not simply an underground crossing, but it is designed to accommodate up to 25 multifunctional areas for commercial units, food and beverage outlets, lifestyle spaces, and service partnerships, all aimed at transforming the transit area into a vibrant public space.
Head of the Commercial Department at MRT Jakarta, Ricky Agung Kresna Putra, made the statement while explaining the commercialization plans for the Bundaran HI MRT Extended Concourse at Wisma Nusantara, Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
“We have a retail area of 1,387 square meters, which may eventually house 24 to 25 retail units,” he said.
Furthermore, Ricky said that the Bundaran HI MRT Extended Concourse corridor has a total width of up to 25 meters. Tenant units are arranged in a zigzag pattern with an average length of 5 meters per unit, leaving a very spacious area of approximately 20 meters for pedestrian traffic flow.

The main space at the end of the corridor is designated as a flexible, multifunctional public area for brand activations, art exhibitions, community events, and hangout spots for public transit users. Ricky noted that MRT Jakarta also prioritizes making this collaborative space available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The commercial approach implemented in this extended concourse focuses on analyzing the needs of partners to ensure that the established collaborations provide optimal benefits and added value for business operators. Ricky said that the commercialization plan for this extended concourse will be based on four main pillars.
First is the retail area, which provides 1,387 square meters of space designed to accommodate approximately 24 to 25 tenant units. Second is the advertising area, which is dedicated to developing interactive advertising media points in direct collaboration with a model that was successfully implemented in MRT Phase 1.
Third is the pop-up and activation area, which sets aside a dedicated space for brand activations and events to create an appealing atmosphere and attract MRT users. Finally, there is the co-branding area, which provides space for collaboration and the creation of user experiences through area-naming schemes and brand partnership support.

Regarding the tenant mix, the extended concourse shifts from the “grab-and-go” model that dominated Phase 1 stations (Lebak Bulus–Bundaran HI) to a destination-oriented approach. Ricky explained that this area is designed as a one-stop shopping destination to encourage visitors to stay and enjoy the available facilities.
“We wanted this to be destination-oriented, designed to create a one-stop shopping destination, because, again, this is the first of its kind. Nothing like this has ever existed before. When people come here, they’re not just grabbing and going anymore, they’re staying, exploring what they can do here. It’s not just about food,” Ricky conveyed.
This extended concourse features an incubation area that complements the futuristic design of the Bundaran HI Station, supporting photo exhibitions, art exhibitions, and even product launches. The presence of this public space provides extra comfort for Jakarta MRT users, allowing them to rest, charge their devices, or hold brief meetings.
