RRI.CO.ID, Samarinda - The strict application of cold chain standards and internationally certified quality assurance has proven effective in lifting East Kalimantan’s fishery products into global markets.
Throughout the first half of 2026, this consistent quality standard implementation helped five leading local seafood commodities, including shrimp and fresh fish, enter regular export markets in 12 destination countries, including Japan and the United States.
The combined export volume of the five flagship commodities reached 1,446 tons in the first half of 2026. The shipments generated foreign exchange earnings of IDR 192.9 billion (USD 12.06 million), underscoring the province’s growing competitiveness in aquaculture and capture fisheries.
Head of Aquaculture and Product Competitiveness at the East Kalimantan Marine and Fisheries Agency, Irma Listiawati, said the leading exports include tiger shrimp, pink shrimp, fresh grouper, fresh pomfret, and white shrimp.
Tiger shrimp dominated with 863.9 tons, while frozen pink shrimp followed at 268.7 tons worth IDR 35.6 billion.
Capture fisheries also contributed significantly, with fresh grouper exports totaling 104.4 tons valued at IDR 8.4 billion, and fresh pomfret shipments of 77.9 tons generating IDR 8.9 billion. White shrimp rounded out the top five with 42 tons worth IDR 7.2 billion.
“The strong demand for tiger shrimp and frozen pink shrimp in export markets proves that our aquaculture products possess superior competitiveness,” Irma said, as quoted by Antara.
She added that the durability of fresh fish in overseas markets is a result of strict cold‑chain standards consistently applied by producers.
East Kalimantan’s seafood exports are routinely absorbed by 12 key consumer countries, including Japan, China, the United States, and Taiwan. To sustain growth, the provincial administration continues to provide certification support and quality assurance to ensure compliance with international standards.
Officials believe the steady flow of cross‑border trade will directly benefit local fishers and farmers. “Our hope is that the surge in export performance from these five flagship commodities will lift the economic welfare of fishermen and aquaculture producers,” Irma said ***.
