RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – MRT Jakarta has officially entered into a partnership with a consortium comprising Hitachi Rail Hong Kong Limited and PT Softorb Technology Indonesia to upgrade its automatic fare collection system. This step is being taken to align Jakarta’s public transportation payment technology with modern, integrated standards.

The agreement to upgrade the Phase 1 North-South Line Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system was marked by the signing of a contract by management from the three companies in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. This partnership is focused on improving the reliability and quality of service for all users of this mass transit system.

The CEO of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), Tuhiyat, stated that modernizing the ticketing system is an urgent necessity given the rapid growth in passenger numbers. His team is working to ensure that all infrastructure is ready to support future operational network expansion.

“With the increasing ridership of the Jakarta MRT and preparations for Phase 2A operations, this collaboration is an important step toward harmonizing an integrated and modern automatic fare collection system,” he explained. “For example, in the future, there will be only one type of reader at station passenger gates for all payment methods,” he said.

“This upgrade is necessary as a strategic step toward harmonizing and ensuring the continuity of the system that will be used in Phase 2A of the North-South Line. The entire process of upgrading the ticket payment system at the 13 Jakarta MRT Phase 1 stations is targeted for completion by 2028,” Tuhiyat stated.

In addition to simplifying the card readers, this harmonization is also part of the implementation of an account-based ticketing system within the Jakarta MRT ecosystem. The development of this technology aims to create faster, safer, and more accessible transaction operations for both daily commuters and international tourists.

Through this comprehensive upgrade at the 13 Phase 1 stations, Jakarta MRT is optimistic that the efficiency of its automated fare collection system can be maximized. This step also strengthens Jakarta’s position in providing modern and sustainable urban transportation connectivity.
