Yogyakarta Promotes Digital Cooperatives to Boost Local Economy

RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Indonesia's Special Region of Yogyakarta is promoting digital transformation to strengthen cooperatives and support inclusive economic growth. The initiative was highlighted during the 79th National Cooperative Day celebration in Yogyakarta on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The provincial government encouraged cooperatives to become more innovative and digitally driven. It also aims to improve their competitiveness while expanding economic opportunities for local communities.

Vice Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta KGPAA, Paku Alam X, said cooperatives should leave behind outdated perceptions. He encouraged them to embrace digital innovation and become more inclusive.

"The 79th National Cooperative Day in 2026 is a momentum to reaffirm cooperatives as the backbone of the national economy. We hope cooperatives in the Special Region of Yogyakarta will become pillars of the people's economy toward an advanced, just, prosperous, and welfare-oriented Indonesia." he said.

Head of the Yogyakarta Cooperatives and SMEs Office, Agus Mulyono, said digitalization remains one of the province's development priorities. He said the provincial government targets establishing nine modern cooperatives through digital innovation this year.

"Our 2026 target is to develop nine modern cooperatives that have adopted digitalization and innovation in their business development." he said.

Agus added the provincial government is also expanding the Red and White Village Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kalurahan Merah Putih/KDKMP) program. He said local governments continue providing training and assistance to strengthen cooperative management and increase public confidence.
