RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is accelerating the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in the pharmaceutical sector by facilitating artificial intelligence (AI)-based Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives. The program aims to ensure digital solutions are ready for large-scale implementation to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.

The pharmaceutical sector is one of the priorities in the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said digital transformation is a strategic necessity for the national manufacturing industry.

“Accelerating digital transformation and adopting advanced technologies such as AI is no longer an option, but a necessity to boost efficiency and global competitiveness in our chemical and pharmaceutical sectors,” Minister Agus said in Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.

Through the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), the ministry facilitated PoC implementation at the Indonesia 4.0 Digital Industry Center (PIDI 4.0).

“PIDI 4.0 provides PoC as a means for companies to test the feasibility of digital solutions under real-world operational conditions before scaling them up,” said BPSDMI Head Doddy Rahadi.

From April to June, the PoC applied System Invariant Analytics Technology (SIAT) -- developed by PT NEC Indonesia in collaboration with Bogor Technology -- at pharmaceutical company PT Kalbe Farma Tbk.

The AI-driven system uses machine learning for predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring of production machinery, enabling early detection of potential disruptions.

The program also evaluated SIAT’s accuracy, integration with existing systems, and opportunities for further development. Results showed the PoC achieved an 8 out of 10 satisfaction rating from Kalbe Farma and met two of three key targets.

“Through this collaboration, digital transformation is not just a concept but a practical implementation delivering tangible benefits to industry,” said Head of the Center for Industrial Human Resources Education and Training, Ronggolawe Sahuri.

The success of the PoC reinforces optimism that collaboration between government, technology providers, and industry players can accelerate Industry 4.0 adoption.

Broader implementation of digital technology is expected to boost productivity, operational efficiency, and competitiveness in both the pharmaceutical sector and the wider manufacturing industry. ***
