RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Industry continues to enhance the competitiveness of the national packaging industry through the implementation of standardization and certification. These efforts are believed to be key to improving product quality, expanding market access, and strengthening the position of Indonesia’s packaging industry within the global supply chain.

Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stated that strengthening the competitiveness of the packaging industry must be carried out comprehensively, not only through product and technological innovation but also by ensuring that every product meets recognized quality standards and certification requirements. According to him, the current development of the packaging industry is no longer focused solely on aesthetics or product protection.

“This industry is also required to meet quality and safety standards, as well as various evolving regulatory requirements, including the public’s growing demands for product safety and halal certification,” Agus said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, July 16, 2026, as quoted by the ministry’s press release.

Meanwhile, during the webinar titled “Improving the Quality and Competitiveness of Packaged Products through Certification,” Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, emphasized that standardization and certification are strategic tools to boost the competitiveness of the national industry, particularly the packaging sector, which faces increasingly high demands from the global market.

“The implementation of standards and certification is not only intended to comply with regulations but also serves as a vital tool for improving quality, safety, efficiency, and market confidence in domestic industrial products. Through these measures, the Ministry of Industry continues to drive industrial transformation to make the sector more competitive, sustainable, and capable of penetrating global markets,” she said.

Emmy added that BSKJI is currently supported by 24 technical service units, comprising Central Offices and Standardization Offices. These units provide various services, including testing, certification, calibration, inspection, and technical assistance for industry players throughout Indonesia.

On the same occasion, the Deputy for Halal Partnerships and Standardization at the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) Abd. Syakur, conveyed that the government is preparing to implement the Mandatory Halal Policy in October 2026. This policy will cover various product categories, including cosmetics, traditional medicines, chemical products, consumer goods, food, beverages, and food ingredients.
