RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, said strengthening the competitiveness of the country's packaging industry requires a comprehensive approach, not only through product and technological innovation but also by ensuring products comply with recognized quality standards and certification. He made the remarks in Jakarta on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

"This is essential to strengthen market confidence, expand trade opportunities, and reinforce the position of Indonesia's packaging industry in the global supply chain," Agus said, as quoted in an official statement. According to the minister, today's packaging industry is no longer focused solely on aesthetics or product protection.

"The industry is now expected to meet increasingly stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards, including growing consumer demand for product safety and halal assurance," he said.

As part of this effort, the Center for Standardization and Industrial Services for Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, and Packaging (BBSPJIKFK) under the Ministry of Industry's Agency for Industrial Standardization and Policy Services (BSKJI) held a webinar titled "Improving Packaging Product Quality and Competitiveness Through Certification."

The online event featured speakers from Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) and BBSPJIKFK to enhance industry awareness of the importance of product certification and halal certification.

Emmy Suryandari, Head of Industrial Standardization and Policy Services (BSKJI), emphasized that standardization and certification are strategic tools for improving the competitiveness of Indonesia's manufacturing sector, including the packaging industry, which faces increasingly demanding global market requirements.

"Standards and certification are not only about regulatory compliance. They are also vital for improving product quality, safety, efficiency, and market confidence. Through these measures, the Ministry of Industry continues to accelerate industrial transformation toward a more competitive, sustainable, and globally competitive manufacturing sector," she said.
