RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Creative Economy has opened new opportunities for cooperation with global technology company Tencent to strengthen Indonesia’s creative economy industry. The collaboration will focus on developing games, entertainment, and digital content.
Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya met with Tencent management in Jakarta to discuss expanding strategic partnerships to reinforce the national creative economy ecosystem.
Minister Riefky welcomed Tencent’s continued investment in the esports ecosystem.
“We expect Tencent’s presence to keep exploring opportunities for cooperation -- not only in gaming and esports, but also in talent development, digital innovation, and the broader creative economy ecosystem,” he said in a statement on Thursday, July 16, 2026, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
He noted that Tencent’s contributions in recent years have supported the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy and expressed hope that the collaboration will expand opportunities for local talent to connect with the global digital industry.
Tencent, one of the world’s largest developers and publishers of games, operates in gaming and digital entertainment. Its portfolio includes popular titles such as Honor of Kings (HoK) and PUBG MOBILE, as well as the WeTV streaming service, which features Indonesian content.
In recent years, Tencent has partnered with the ministry on talent development programs, including support for GAMESEED, the Honor of Kings Invitational Series Season 4, and activities marking the eighth anniversary of PUBG MOBILE, which involved local creative economy stakeholders.
Beyond gaming and entertainment, Tencent also offers technological solutions in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), digital platforms, and payment systems. These capabilities are seen as supporting the implementation of the 2026–2045 Creative Economy Master Plan (Rindekraf).
The ministry and Tencent also discussed strengthening human resource capacity, expanding the distribution of creative content, and developing Indonesia’s intellectual property (IP) to enhance competitiveness in the global market. ***
