RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The significant potential of the halal market in Indonesia and Morocco has encouraged both countries to accelerate cooperation in halal product assurance.

The move is expected to expand market access, boost bilateral trade, and strengthen their position in the global halal ecosystem.

The collaboration follows the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) signed by Indonesia and Morocco.

Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said the implementation of the MRA not only strengthens the halal assurance system between the two countries but also creates wider cross-sectoral trade opportunities.

“This collaboration not only strengthens the implementation of halal product assurance between the two countries but also opens opportunities for mutually beneficial multi-sectoral trade and supports Indonesia’s trade balance,” Haikal said in Jakarta on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that accelerated communication with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco aligns with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister's support to expedite the MRA’s implementation, strengthen multi-sectoral trade synergies, and prepare for the next bilateral cooperation agenda.

Haikal described Morocco as a strategic partner with high standards, adding that the partnership can enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian halal products in international markets.

He further said the collaboration will support the implementation of Indonesia’s Mandatory Halal Policy, which takes effect on October 18, 2026. It is also expected to open investment opportunities, expand trade, and encourage the development of the halal industry across sectors.

The follow-up discussion in Jakarta was attended by Morocco’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade, Omar Hejira, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, and the head of Morocco’s halal institution, Institut Marocain de Normalization (IMANOR).

Also present were representatives from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Association Marocaine des Exportateurs (ASMEX), the Fédération Nationale de l’Agro-Alimentaire (FENAGRI), the Agence Marocaine de Développement des Investissements et des Exportations (AMDIE), Morocco Foodex, and several Moroccan industry players to discuss opportunities to strengthen halal sector cooperation between the two countries. ***
