RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta _ Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, reaffirmed that the halal industry is one of Indonesia's most strategic sectors, with enormous growth potential driven by rising global demand for halal products. He made the remarks in a statement released on Monday, July 6, 2026.
"Indonesia's strong industrial foundation provides an important basis for maximizing opportunities in the halal industry. Globally, Muslim consumerconsume. spending across six sectors of the Islamic economy reached US$2.6 trillion in 2024 and is projected to increase to US$3.56 trillion by 2029," Agus said.
He noted that Indonesia has significant potential to expand its halal industry. In 2025, the country was home to 248.6 million Muslims, accounting for 87.13 percent of the total population. Household consumption reached Rp12,834 trillion, while Muslim consumer spending was estimated at Rp11,182 trillion.
"Demand for halal products continues to grow in both domestic and international markets, creating tremendous economic and business opportunities. Therefore, we are strengthening Indonesia's halal industry ecosystem so that domestic manufacturers can play a greater role in the global halal supply chain," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Industrial Standardization and Services Policy Agency (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, said strengthening standardization infrastructure and conformity assessment services—including halal inspection services—is essential to improving the competitiveness of Indonesia's manufacturing sector.
According to her, BSKJI continues to enhance the capacity of its technical service units across the country to provide professional, efficient, transparent, and industry-oriented halal inspection and certification services.
"The presence of BSPJI Halal Inspection Agencies (LPH BSPJI) across various regions plays a key role in expanding access to halal certification, particularly for small and medium industries. With better-quality services, we hope more Indonesian products will meet halal standards and become increasingly competitive in both domestic and international markets," she said.
She added that halal certification has evolved beyond regulatory compliance and has become a value-added asset that boosts consumer confidence and opens wider export opportunities.
As a technical service unit under BSKJI, LPH BSPJI Padang provides halal inspection services accredited by Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH). Its services include document verification and validation, on-site inspections, audits, and product testing, particularly for the food and beverage sector.
In recognition of its contribution to the development of Indonesia's halal industry, BSPJI Padang received the Halal Industry Award (IHYA) 2025 as the Third Best Government Institution Supporting Halal Programs.
Over the past two years, 97 businesses have obtained halal certificates through LPH BSPJI Padang. In addition, throughout 2025, the Ministry of Industry, through BSPJI Padang, provided free halal certification to 25 assisted small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
