RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) Head Abdul Kadir Karding stressed the need to strengthen governance of swiftlet nest exports to meet destination countries’ requirements and boost competitiveness in the global market.

“We must ensure that swiftlet nest exports, particularly premium products, comply with the standards set by destination countries,” Karding said in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that improvements are being made through tighter quality control, enhanced monitoring reliability, and compliance with export requirements. These measures are expected to prevent suspensions by importing countries.

Currently, 19 of Indonesia’s 50 swiftlet nest exporters remain suspended by the Chinese government after their products were found to contain aluminum levels exceeding the 100 parts per million (PPM) threshold.

“We are improving quality control, reliability, and other requirements. It is better for exports to be suspended domestically than abroad, so that products received meet standards,” he said.

Barantin will also strengthen communication through the Indonesian Embassy in China to encourage the lifting of suspensions on the 19 companies.

Karding said his office has held meetings with associations and businesses in the swiftlet-nest industry to gather input on the challenges exporters face.

He emphasized that governance improvements are essential as export market requirements grow increasingly stringent. “Markets for all commodities are now stricter and more detailed, so we must improve our internal systems,” he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Swiftlet Nest Entrepreneurs Association (PPSBI) Chairman Boedi Mranata confirmed that 19 of the 50 exporting companies remain suspended, primarily by China.

He explained that Indonesia’s swiftlet nest exports to China reach around 400–500 tons annually, a volume currently supplied by companies not subject to suspension.

“Many of our companies have been suspended, and this issue must be addressed immediately. To date, the Chinese government has not reopened access to the suspended firms,” Boedi said. ***
