Indonesian Govt Discusses IEU-CEPA to JEIC with German Business Delegation

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, held a meeting with a German business delegation led by German Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, Florian Hahn, in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026. The meeting was part of German President H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s state visit to Indonesia.

The two sides discussed a number of strategic agendas, including increasing trade and investment, accelerating the conclusion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), strengthening cooperation through the Joint Economic and Investment Committee (JEIC), as well as opportunities for collaboration in the green industry and the development of high-quality human resources in Indonesia.

On this occasion, Minister Hahn expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s potential as a highly promising economic partner for German companies, particularly in the renewable energy, healthcare, and other strategic industries sectors.

“Indonesia is an extraordinary partner. We are ready to share expertise, innovation, and technology to realize tangible investments, including future collaboration with Danantara,” Minister Hahn stated, as quoted from the ministry’s written press release on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga, expressed his hope that the signing and ratification of the IEU-CEPA can be completed this year so that the benefits can be felt immediately by the people of both countries. “One of the key priorities this year is the ratification of the IEU-CEPA,” he said. Welcoming this, Minister Hahn reaffirmed Germany’s full support for the IEU-CEPA and expressed optimism that the process leading to ratification will proceed smoothly.

The IEU-CEPA is expected to eliminate tariffs on over 98% of traded goods, opening opportunities for increased Indonesian exports and German investment. The JEIC Forum is also scheduled to take place in September 2026 in Jakarta to finalize implementation steps for the cooperation.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga expressed appreciation for Germany’s leadership in Europe and hoped this cooperation would not only increase trade volume but also drive green industrial transformation, technology transfer, and the development of an inclusive and sustainable future industry. Both countries agreed that this cooperation represents a strategic momentum for Indonesia and Germany to build a strong, visionary, and future-oriented economic partnership focused on sustainability.
