RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is stepping up efforts to develop its jewelry industry after exports of jewelry and precious goods jumped 64.73 percent to USD 9.1 billion in 2025 from USD 5.5 billion a year earlier.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the jewelry sector is one of Indonesia’s high-value manufacturing industries, contributing significantly to exports while preserving cultural heritage and creating jobs across the country.
To support further growth, the ministry is promoting industry development through capacity-building programs, technology adoption, and market expansion initiatives, including support for the Bandung Jewellery Fair (BJF) 2026 held from June 11-14.
“The increase in exports shows that Indonesian jewelry products are becoming more competitive in international markets,” Minister Agus said in a statement on Monday, June 15, 2026, as quoted on the ministry's official website.
The ministry is also encouraging digital transformation and Industry 4.0 implementation to improve efficiency, innovation, and product quality.
Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries Reni Yanita said assessments conducted through the Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index (INDI 4.0) showed positive progress among precious metals and jewelry manufacturers in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, smart manufacturing, and digital management systems.
Despite strong growth, the industry continues to face challenges, including global economic uncertainty, fluctuating raw material prices, changing consumer preferences, and the need for faster technological adaptation.
Officials said exhibitions such as BJF play an important role in helping businesses showcase products, build partnerships, track market trends, and create new trade and investment opportunities while strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesia’s jewelry industry. ***
