RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, said the government continues to take proactive measures to maintain the sustainability of the national industrial sector amid rising global uncertainty.

These efforts aim to safeguard production activities, strengthen competitiveness, and mitigate risks that could affect the national economy.

Minister Agus noted that the Ministry of Industry, in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, has prepared three strategic measures to strengthen the manufacturing sector: enhancing incentives, controlling imports, and reorganizing import entry points.

“These efforts are aimed at ensuring production activities continue uninterrupted,” Minister Agus said during a Working Meeting with the House of Representatives’ Commission VII at the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Monday, June 8, 2026.

He explained that the third measure involves reorganizing entry‑point ports for certain consumer goods. “This initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of import oversight and control, while improving national logistics management and optimizing port capacity beyond Java Island,” he said.

Minister Agus mentioned Sorong, Bitung, and Kupang as ports proposed to serve as new entry points. He noted that utilization of these ports remains low, so they could support new economic growth if designated as import gateways.

Previously, Commission VII Speaker Saleh Partaonan Daulay hopes that the Ministry will introduce innovations to address the current global geopolitical situation. He said this situation must be taken into account when formulating industrial policies.

“The Ministry needs to ensure that the current global political situation does not lead people with money to withdraw their funds and buy dollars, thereby causing dollar scarcity,” Saleh said.

He added that Minister Agus must outline the vision and direction for the future development of the national industrial sector. This explanation, he said, is necessary so that the House can understand the government’s intended steps.

Saleh emphasized that the progress of the industrial sector serves as a key indicator of a nation’s strength. Therefore, Indonesia must continue to strengthen its economic foundation through industrial development. (Gusti Panji)
