Vice Minister of Trade Fosters Indonesia’s Trade Ties with Four Partners

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Trade, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, moved to strengthen Indonesia’s trade relations with four partner economies on the sidelines of the APEC Ministers' Responsible for Trade 2026 in Suzhou, China, on May 22–23, 2026. The bilateral meetings were held with representatives from Vietnam, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Singapore to discuss trade developments and current regional economic issues.
Roro said the first day of meetings was highly productive, as Indonesia and its partners mapped out more concrete economic cooperation for businesses. “Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that bilateral cooperation delivers real benefits for businesses and the wider public,” Roro said, quoted from official statement on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
During talks with Vietnam’s Vice Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Indonesia expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s leadership of the CPTPP in 2026. Indonesia also reiterated its commitment to pursuing accession to the CPTPP to strengthen ASEAN’s role in the evolving regional trade architecture.
In a meeting with Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau, both sides discussed efforts to maximize ASEAN–Hong Kong economic cooperation. Roro said Indonesia is accelerating the ratification of the amended AHKFTA protocol to further optimize the agreement’s benefits for both economies.
Meanwhile, talks with New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment, Todd McClay, focused on achieving the bilateral trade target of NZD 6 billion by 2029. “Both countries also support maintaining smooth global supply chains amid ongoing international uncertainty,” Todd McClay said.
Indonesia stressed its commitment to strengthening trade resilience through export diversification, optimization of trade agreements, and the expansion of non-traditional markets.
In a separate meeting with Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment in charge of Trade Relations, Grace Fu, Indonesia expressed hope for Singapore’s support in advancing Indonesia’s CPTPP accession process.
