RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed optimism that Indonesia’s economic growth could reach 6.5 percent by 2027, calling the target realistic as the private sector begins to mobilize and investment activity increases.
He added that the government is also aiming for economic growth this year to approach six percent. “So the potential is very high,” Minister Purbaya said at the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Minister Purbaya emphasized that the private sector is a key driver of national economic growth, and its momentum must be supported by government policies. “I hope that next year, the private sector’s engines will be running better than they are now,” he said.
The minister noted that the government has set an exchange rate assumption for the rupiah at around IDR 16,700 per US dollar, calculated using an economic model prepared by the government. He said several measures are being prepared to strengthen the rupiah over a specific period, expressing confidence that these policies will help stabilize the currency.
“The private sector’s growth engine has begun to move, though it is not yet fully optimized. I think it will move even faster next year,” Minister Purbaya said, adding that the government continues to formulate policies to sustain business activity and the domestic economy.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto set a target for Indonesia’s economic growth in 2027 to be in the range of 5.8 to 6.5 percent, as outlined in the Macroeconomic Framework and Key Fiscal Policy Guidelines (KEM-PPKF) of the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN).
President Prabowo said prudent and sustainable fiscal policies would support this target, with the government also aiming for growth to reach eight percent by 2029. (Gusti Panji)
