RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is expanding trade opportunities in the Eurasian region by strengthening economic ties with Belarus to support industry, food security, and access to new export markets.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, met Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin to discuss cooperation in trade, investment, and agricultural modernization.
“Belarus is Indonesia’s strategic partner in Eastern Eurasia and serves as a key gateway to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market,” Minister Airlangga said in Jakarta on Friday, May 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Minister Airlangga added that Indonesia is ready to welcome a Belarusian business delegation during the Belarusian president’s upcoming visit. Preparations are underway to finalize the Belarus-Indonesia Cooperation Roadmap, which will guide future collaboration.
Belarus is recognized for its strong manufacturing and agro-industrial sectors. In 2024, manufacturing accounted for about 20.3 percent of the nation's gross domestic product. The country also achieved a food self-sufficiency rate of 96 percent through agricultural mechanization and agro-industrial technology.
Indonesia hopes this expertise can accelerate the modernization of its own agriculture and strengthen national food security.
Prime Minister Turchin reaffirmed Belarus’s commitment to deepening economic ties with Indonesia and expressed support for the opening of an Indonesian Embassy in Minsk to facilitate diplomatic and trade relations.
Both sides also discussed the implementation of the Indonesia-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA), signed in St. Petersburg on December 21, 2025. The Indonesian government views the agreement as a key step toward expanding open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial trade in the Eurasian region. ***
