RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade brought together 31 Indonesian green economy businesses and potential buyers from Japan during the Business Matching Sessions Indonesia-Japan in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The event was part of the ASEAN-Japan Centre’s participation in The 2nd Indonesia-Japan Environment Week 2026, held in Jakarta on May 11–12. Through the forum, the government sought to help Indonesian businesses expand exports, build business partnerships, attract investment, and open opportunities for technology transfer from Japan.
The Ministry’s Directorate General of National Export Development, in collaboration with the ASEAN-Japan Centre, facilitated the participation of businesses and associations from several strategic green sectors. These included recycled products, eco-friendly goods, waste-to-energy, recycled raw materials, and environmental management services.
Director General of National Export Development, Fajarini Puntodewi, said the business matching was a strategic step to make the most of the Japanese delegation’s visit to Indonesia. Japan, she said, has strong expertise in the circular economy, while Indonesia has major potential in green products and sustainable resources.
“Through this facilitation, Indonesia can strengthen its position in a sustainability-based global supply chain. We are optimistic that Indonesian businesses will gain greater opportunities to become part of the global green product supply chain,” Puntodewi said, quoted from official statement.
She added that global demand for environmentally friendly products continues to grow. For that reason, Indonesian businesses need closer access to international markets, including Japan, which is known for its high sustainability standards.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Directorate General of National Export Development, Sugih Rahmansyah, said the business matching was designed to connect Indonesia’s local innovations with Japan’s advanced technology needs. He expressed hope that the meetings would lead to concrete cooperation, not just introductions.
“This business matching serves as a concrete bridge for Indonesian businesses to connect with Japanese partners, especially in the green economy sector, which has strong prospects,” Sugih said.
Sugih noted that cooperation with Japan is strategic because Japanese industries have strengths in technology, efficiency, and commitment to circular economy practices. At the same time, Indonesia is strengthening its green economy agenda, energy transition, and development of value-added export products.
He said further cooperation is expected in areas such as waste-to-energy management, urban waste management systems, and sustainable industrial practices. Such collaboration, he added, could improve the competitiveness of Indonesia’s environmentally friendly export products.
