RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Germany are strengthening their industrial partnership amid evolving global trade dynamics, with a focus on enhancing quality infrastructure to support exports and the transformation of the national industry.
The collaboration was discussed at the 3rd High-Level Indonesian–German Annual Meeting on Quality Infrastructure in Jakarta on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The forum brought together government representatives, standardization bodies, industry players, and strategic partners from both countries.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that strengthening the quality infrastructure system is essential to improving national industrial competitiveness in the digital and global trade era. He noted that bilateral cooperation with Germany is also crucial for expanding access to international markets for Indonesian products.
“Cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in the quality infrastructure sector is expected to strengthen the national industrial ecosystem, making it more competitive, adaptable to global regulatory developments, and capable of expanding export market access, particularly to the European region,” Minister Agus said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, May 14, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
He added that standardization and conformity assessment provide a vital foundation for building global market confidence in Indonesian manufactured products. The government is also promoting digital transformation within the quality infrastructure system to better prepare the national industry for international competition.
The event was attended by delegations from Indonesia and Germany, led by Ole Janssen from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie/BMWE). On the Indonesian side, the forum was opened by Emmy Suryandari, Head of the Agency for Standardization and Industrial Services Policy (BSKJI).
Emmy stressed that quality infrastructure plays a strategic role in consumer protection, expanding access to global markets, and fostering sustainable industrial development. She also highlighted the importance of harmonizing technical regulations and accelerating industrial digitalization in line with evolving global standards.
One of the forum’s key outcomes was the signing of the Indonesia–Germany Cooperation Work Plan for the 2026–2027 period. The agreement reflects both nations’ commitment to advancing a modern, adaptive, globally integrated quality infrastructure system.
The forum also addressed three strategic issues: harmonization of the quality infrastructure system within the framework of the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I–EU CEPA), strengthening product safety through standardization, and readiness for the implementation of the EU Digital Product Passport.
The government hopes that collaboration between Indonesia and Germany will enhance the competitiveness of the national industry while opening broader export opportunities, particularly in Europe. ***
