RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo outlined several measures to maintain rupiah stability after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Perry said BI continues to strengthen interventions in both domestic and international foreign exchange markets. “Interventions include cash transactions and Domestic Non-Deliverable Forwards (DNDF), carried out both domestically and abroad,” he explained.
He noted that these interventions have helped keep the rupiah stable, supported by sufficient foreign exchange reserves. BI is also focusing on strengthening capital inflows and fiscal-monetary coordination through the BI Rupiah Securities (SRBI) instrument.
According to Perry, SRBI is designed to offset outflows from Government Securities (SBN) and stocks. BI has purchased SBN from the secondary market between January and April 2026, totaling IDR 123.1 trillion (USD 7.08 billion).
BI and the Ministry of Finance are also coordinating on fiscal and monetary measures. “The Minister of Finance and I are maintaining liquidity in the banking and money markets, as shown by double-digit growth in the money supply,” Perry said.
The government has introduced a policy limiting dollar purchases in the domestic market without supporting documentation, reducing the monthly limit from USD 100,000 to USD 50,000 per person.
Additional measures include strengthening market intervention through Offshore Non-Deliverable Forwards to help manage overseas exchange rate developments. Oversight of banks and corporations with high-dollar purchase activity will also be tightened by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to safeguard financial system stability.
