RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s economy has shown resilience amid global pressures and uncertainty, recording growth of 5.61 percent in the first quarter of 2026 (Q1-2026).

“Compared to Q1-2025, Indonesia’s economy grew 5.61 percent year-on-year,” said Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in a press statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 5. Economic growth in Q1-2025 was recorded at 4.8 percent.

Amalia noted that Q1-2026 growth was the highest since 2014. However, on a quarterly basis, the economy contracted by 0.77 percent.

With growth of 5.61 percent, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices reached IDR 6,187.2 trillion (USD 354.71 million), while GDP at constant prices stood at IDR 3,447.7 trillion.

“From the production side, the main contributors to Q1-2026 growth were manufacturing, trade, agriculture, and construction, driven by increased production activity to meet rising domestic demand,” Amalia said.

From the expenditure side, household consumption, investment, and government spending were the main drivers. Household consumption rose 5.52 percent, investment 5.96 percent, and government spending surged by 21.81 percent. “Government consumption grew impressively, supported by employee spending through the 14th-month salary (THR) payments,” Amalia explained.

The sharp rise in government consumption was also driven by increased spending on goods and services, particularly through the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

BPS also reported that several major trading partners posted positive growth in Q1-2026, including Vietnam (7.8 percent), Malaysia (5.3 percent), China (5.0 percent), Singapore (4.6 percent), South Korea (3.6 percent), and the United States (2.7 percent). (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
