RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia has secured oil supplies from Russia. Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, made the statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

He also said that the results of the President’s working visit to Russia have yielded long-term energy cooperation. “In Russia, there was a meeting with President Putin; the main point was the enhancement of long-term cooperation in the energy sector,” Teddy said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, shared good news following his meeting with President Putin’s Special Envoy and the Russian Minister of Energy. He confirmed that Indonesia has successfully secured new crude oil reserves.

Minister Bahlil stated, “I met with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and President Putin’s special envoy, and the news, alhamdulillah, is quite encouraging. We will receive crude oil supplies from Russia.”

He conveyed that Indonesia needs a large supply because consumption reaches 1.6 million barrels per day, while production is only around 600,000 barrels. To meet these needs, he emphasized that the government is implementing the principle of active free-market economics.

“The Indonesian government has always prioritized an ‘Free-Active’ principle, and that principle also encompasses an independent and active economic approach. So we are free to make purchases anywhere as long as we remain committed to the people or countries with whom we have established cooperative relationships,” Bahlil explained.

Oil supplies from Russia were secured following President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit and meeting with President Vladimir Putin on April 13. In addition to securing energy supplies, the government is also accelerating infrastructure development that will support energy independence.
