RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s construction materials industry is once again expanding its global footprint. State-owned cement producer PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) has begun shipping products to Africa as part of its international market strategy.
Through its subsidiary PT Semen Indonesia International (SII), SIG marked its first shipment of 45,000 metric tons of clinker to Mauritania in northwest Africa. The export was carried out via SIG’s special port at its Tuban production facility in East Java, underscoring the company’s push to strengthen its regional presence.
“The African continent, which offers strong prospects for infrastructure growth and meets international standards, allows SIG to remain optimistic about continuously enhancing its competitiveness in the global market,” said SIG Corporate Secretary Vita Mahreyni in Jakarta on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The shipment represents the first phase of a planned total export of 90,000 metric tons of clinker to Mauritania throughout 2026. Mauritania is seen as a strategic market with high demand for building materials to support infrastructure projects, while its domestic clinker production capacity remains limited.
SIG’s expansion reflects its commitment to sustaining sales growth and reinforcing its position in international markets. The company’s diversification strategy also responds to shifting dynamics in domestic demand.
In 2025, SIG recorded regional sales of 7.95 million tons, a 14.3 percent increase year-on-year compared to 6.96 million tons in the previous period. This performance highlights the growing contribution of overseas markets to the company’s overall results.
“The company will continue to expand its export network to other potential regions. We hope this initiative will further solidify SIG’s position as the largest building materials company in the region,” Vita said.
Exports to Mauritania mark a new opportunity for Indonesia’s cement industry to expand its global market share amid Africa’s infrastructure boom. The strategy also reinforces SIG’s focus on strengthening international competitiveness by optimizing export markets. ***
