RRI.CO.ID, Seoul – The Indonesian government announced a significant decision regarding the “8 National Work Culture Transformations” in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. One of these initiatives, in the energy sector, involves the government implementing the B50 policy starting July 1, 2026, which is expected to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
“The seventh initiative, as part of efforts toward energy independence and energy efficiency, involves the government implementing the B50 policy, which takes effect on July 1, 2026,” Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said .
Airlangga explained that this measure aims to strengthen energy independence and reduce fossil fuel consumption by up to 4 million kiloliters per year. This policy is expected to save up to Rp48 trillion or USD3 billion in biodiesel subsidies and maintain national economic stability amid global challenges.
He explained, “Pertamina is ready to implement the blending, and this has the potential to reduce the use of fossil-based fuel by 4 million kiloliters. And this is within one year, certainly, within six months, there will be savings from fossil fuel use as well as savings on biodiesel subsidies, estimated at 48 trillion.”
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, added that the implementation of B50 is supported by Pertamina’s readiness and the commencement of operations at the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) refinery in East Kalimantan. With the implementation of B50 and the refinery’s operations in East Kalimantan, Indonesia is projected to achieve a diesel surplus.
“I also want to mention that with the implementation of B50, God willing, we will have a surplus of diesel this year. So this is good news now that we have started operating the RDMP in East Kalimantan,” Bahlil stated.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources also reported that national reserves of fuel, gas, and LPG are currently above the minimum standard despite global political tensions.
