RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government is pushing to increase its export target to China by 20 percent in 2026. This initiative aims at bolstering the national economy through the 2026 China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO).

Representing the Minister of Trade, Director General of National Export Development, Fajarini Puntodewi, underscored the vital importance of the Chinese market for local businesses. China remains a primary trading partner, with Indonesia's export value reaching $67 billion last year.

“China is a key and strategic trading partner for Indonesia. In 2025, Indonesia’s exports to China reached $67 billion, with over 90 percent consisting of non-oil and gas exports,” Fajarini stated in her remarks at the Kick-off Event for Indonesia’s Participation in CAEXPO 2026 on Friday, March 13, 2026.

With a population of 1.4 billion, China has offered significant opportunities for Indonesian agricultural and food products. The government aims to leverage platforms like CAEXPO to ensure export growth hits the 20% mark.

In addition, Fajarini mentioned, “Let’s work together to ensure our exports to China increase by up to 20 percent. Last year they rose by 16 percent despite global challenges. This is a collective effort to further expand our reach.”

The 75-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations, coupled with Indonesia’s accession to BRICS, has significantly strengthened economic cooperation. China is currently prioritizing digital transformation and artificial intelligence through the China-ASEAN AI Innovation Center in Nanning.

Last year’s CAEXPO results were impressive, showing a 400% increase in transactions and investments. Consequently, Fajarini encouraged local governments to participate in the "Cities of Charm" showcase to highlight regional potential.

Prior to the main exhibition, the Ministry of Trade will support business owners through business pitching and matching activities at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center on September 17–21, 2026. These sessions are designed to help entrepreneurs secure agreements with potential buyers before they even arrive in China.
