RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, announced that Indonesia’s jewelry industry recorded strong growth throughout 2025, reflecting rising global demand for the country’s jewelry products. In a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday ,March 9, 2026, Agus said Indonesia’s exports of jewelry and precious goods reached USD 9.1 billion in 2025, marking a 65.54 percent increase compared to the previous year.

“This increase shows that Indonesia’s jewelry industry has significant potential to continue expanding in international markets. This positive momentum must be maintained by strengthening product quality and building trust in domestic products,” Agus said in the official statement.

The Minister also emphasized that with rising production and global demand, ensuring the accuracy of gold purity testing has become increasingly important. “The role of testing laboratories is very strategic in ensuring the conformity of precious metal content so that products circulating in the market meet clear and accountable quality standards,” he said.

As part of these efforts, the government is encouraging laboratories and industry players to participate in the Proficiency Testing Provider (PUP) program. The initiative focuses on evaluating the testing capabilities of laboratories by comparing results objectively, ensuring that testing outcomes are more accurate, consistent, and reliable.

Through the strengthening of testing systems, Indonesia’s jewelry industry is expected not only to capitalize on global market opportunities but also to be increasingly recognized as a producer of high-quality jewelry.

Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, said the proficiency testing program is an important instrument in supporting Indonesia’s gold jewelry industry by ensuring more accurate and reliable testing standards.

“We continue to promote the implementation of standards across industrial sectors, particularly in ensuring the quality of products circulating in the market. This Proficiency Testing Program is crucial for industrial laboratories conducting gold quality testing to demonstrate the validity of their test results, which will ultimately strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s gold industry in global markets,” she said.

The proficiency testing service in the gold sector is carried out by the Center for Standardization and Industrial Services for Crafts and Batik (BBSPJIKB), a unit under BSKJI. The program is the first and only proficiency testing initiative for gold commodities in Indonesia, making it a national reference for ensuring the quality of gold testing.

Head of BBSPJIKB, Zya Labiba, stated that the PUP service is open to various sectors, including industry players, private institutions, and government agencies, both accredited and non-accredited laboratories.

According to her, proficiency testing provides multiple benefits, including serving as proof of compliance with SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Clause 7.7.2 regarding the assurance of test result validity. It also helps laboratories evaluate their testing performance and ensures the accuracy of testing results against broader population data.

“Through this program, laboratories receive test objects simultaneously within a predetermined time frame. This allows testing results from each laboratory to be compared objectively, measurably, and transparently,” Zya said.

The Ministry of Industry, through BBSPJIKB, remains committed to supporting gold product companies in improving quality and reliability, while contributing to strengthening the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s gold industry.
