RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry reported that Indonesia’s jewelry industry recorded a strong performance in 2025, with exports of jewelry and precious goods reaching USD 9.1 billion. The figure marked a 65.54 percent increase compared to 2024.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the industry has significant opportunities to continue expanding in the international market. “Therefore, national product quality is crucial to maintaining market confidence,” he stated on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Minister Agus explained that one way to maintain quality is by strengthening the gold content testing system. Laboratories, he said, play a strategic role in ensuring the purity of precious metals used as raw materials for jewelry and other valuable goods.

He emphasized that the Ministry is encouraging laboratories and industries to participate in proficiency testing programs. “This aims to ensure more accurate, consistent, and reliable gold testing results,” he said.

Head of the Agency for Industrial Services Standardization and Policy (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, highlighted the importance of proficiency testing for gold quality assurance. “This program will enhance the validity of gold quality test results, thereby boosting competitiveness in the global market,” she said.

Emmy added that consistent quality standards provide assurance that Indonesian gold jewelry products meet internationally recognized technical criteria.

The proficiency testing service is provided by the Center for Standardization and Industrial Services for Crafts and Batik (BBSPJIKB), a unit under the Ministry of Industry that serves as the first and only national reference for gold products.

BBSPJIKB Head Zya Labiba said the service is open to both private and state-owned industries. She explained that participants can evaluate their testing performance transparently through a simultaneous distribution scheme.

“This program uses a simultaneous scheme, whereby test objects are distributed for testing at the same time within a predetermined period,” she said. With this method, Zya added, results from each laboratory can be compared objectively, transparently, and measurably.

Through strengthening the testing system, the Ministry expects the national gold jewelry industry to enhance its reputation in the global market.
