RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has assessed that fiscal stability remains intact despite geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that the initial impact of the conflict would be reflected in export performance and global oil prices.
Minister Purbaya emphasized that the government has prepared simulations for potential energy price spikes. “I have calculated crude oil prices up to USD 92 per barrel, and we can still control the budget, so there is no problem,” he said ahead of his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He stated that the fiscal policy framework remains adequate to mitigate risks, and the government sees no need for excessive reaction.
Minister Purbaya acknowledged the potential risks posed by disruptions in strategic distribution channels, such as the Hormuz Strait. Such conditions could push up oil import prices and increase the budget deficit.
To anticipate this pressure, the government is prioritizing stronger state revenue collection from taxation and customs. “That has reduced the pressure on the deficit,” Minister Purbaya said.
After optimizing revenue, the government will evaluate further impacts and determine additional measures if necessary. Minister Purbaya added that the economy is expected to remain resilient as long as domestic consumption, which contributes about 90 percent of gross domestic product, is maintained. ***
