RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia through state owned oil company Pertamina has begun to be wary of the impact of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Iran's official military, on February 28, 2026. PT Pertamina (Persero) confirmed i in a written press release on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

As reported by Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC stated that no ships would be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after the attacks launched by the US and Israel against Iran. US naval assets would be within range of IRGC missiles and drones in the ongoing attacks.

The closure of this strategic sea lane has the potential to disrupt the flow of crude oil shipments worldwide, including Indonesia. Pertamina has identified three strategic business units that are directly affected by the dynamics in the region, namely PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non Captive, Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), and Pertamina Patra Niaga.

As the backbone of Indonesia's energy sector, Pertamina is taking a number of mitigation and coordination measures. Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, explained that the main focus at this time is to monitor the safety of crews in the affected area and ensure that all operations continue to run safely.

“All workers, operations, and fleets in the Middle East are being closely monitored. Pertamina has also prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian embassies, consulates, and local authorities to maintain smooth operations and crew safety,” Baron said.

Pertamina is also seeking alternative oil supplies from other partner countries. Diversification of energy sources is considered important to reduce dependence on a single region. This step has been taken to ensure that domestic fuel and LPG stocks remain sufficient.

In addition, Pertamina is also optimizing domestic refinery operations to maintain a balance between production and distribution.

“As the frontline of national energy, Pertamina is tightening supervision and striving to ensure the security of crude oil, fuel, and LPG supplies,” Baron conveyed.

Strict supervision continues to be carried out on every line of fuel supply distribution. This mitigation is expected to maintain overall national economic stability.
