RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesia reaffirmed its position on the implementation of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) with the United States during a press statement on global tariffs on Friday, 21 February 2026 Officials addressed recent developments in U.S. tariff policy and their potential impact on bilateral trade.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said Indonesia has secured key interests under the agreement signed with the United States. He highlighted the government’s request regarĥding products that have already obtained zero-percent tariff treatment.

He explained that Indonesia wants previously granted zero-percent tariffs to remain unchanged, even if a general 10 percent tariff policy is applied to other countries. According to him, this is crucial to protect Indonesia’s leading export commodities.

“Yesterday Indonesia signed the agreement, and what Indonesia requested is that while others may be subject to a 10 percent tariff, those that have already been granted zero percent should remain zero percent,” he said.

Airlangga added that several agricultural products, including coffee and cocoa, fall under arrangements that have already provided preferential treatment. The government is seeking to ensure those benefits are maintained under the evolving tariff framework.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, referred to what he described as a recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court related to global tariffs. He spoke about the implications of that development during the same press briefing.

“After the Supreme Court decision yesterday, of course moving from 19 percent to 10 percent is better in terms of calculation. But in principle, Indonesia is ready for all possible scenarios that may occur,” he said.

Teddy emphasized that the government has anticipated various policy scenarios in the United States prior to signing the agreement. He said Indonesia remains prepared for adjustments in global trade regulations.

Both officials stressed that the agreement is still within a consultation period before full implementation. During this phase, Indonesia continues to coordinate with U.S. authorities to safeguard national trade interests while ensuring stability for exporters and domestic industries.
