RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and the United States have secured USD 38.4 billion in new trade and investment commitments, marking one of the largest bilateral business agreements in recent years and underscoring deepening economic ties between Southeast Asia’s largest economy and Washington.
The commitments were formalized at the 2026 US-Indonesia Business Summit in Washington, D.C., organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and the U.S.-Indonesia Society on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, local time.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who attended the summit, emphasized governance and investor confidence in his remarks. “I understand how markets work. Markets value transparency, discipline and credibility," he said on Friday, February 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
"My responsibility as President is to strengthen governance, enhance transparency, and ensure that we meet international standards. This is about maintaining the integrity of our economy and long-term investor trust,” the President added.
Of the total USD 38.4 billion (approximately IDR 649.42 trillion) commitment, USD 4.5 billion is allocated to the agricultural sector. This includes planned purchases of soybeans worth USD 1.37 billion, wheat valued at USD 1.25 billion through 2030, corn worth USD 855 million, cotton worth USD 244 million, and other agricultural products totaling USD 800 million.
The manufacturing sector accounts for the bulk of the commitments, with agreements totaling USD 33.91 billion. Among them are a USD 2 billion cooperation agreement between Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the US-ASEAN Business Council, a USD 200 million agreement for shredded worn clothing as industrial raw material, and major semiconductor investment plans valued at USD 4.89 billion and USD 26.7 billion.
The agreements were signed in the presence of President Prabowo during a Gala Iftar Dinner session, with U.S. and Indonesian company leaders directly formalizing the partnerships.
The scale of the commitments reflects growing strategic economic engagement between Indonesia and the United States, particularly in critical supply chains such as food commodities and semiconductors, as both countries seek to strengthen trade resilience and long-term investment flows. ***
