RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Former Indonesian Vice Minister of Finance, Thomas Djiwandono, took the oath as a deputy governor of Indonesia’s central bank, Bank Indonesia. As Thomas took his oath of office, he was instructed by the country's president, Prabowo Subianto, to "work for the nation".
Thomas was inducted into the role of Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday, 9 February 2026. In front of the Supreme Court leadership and holding the Bible in his right hand, Thomas pledged to carry out his duties and responsibilities to the best of his ability.
"I swear that I will carry out the duties and responsibilities of Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia to the best of my ability and with full responsibility," he said.
"I swear that I will remain loyal to the state, the constitution, and the state ideology. So help me God," he stated, ending his oath.
After taking the oath, Thomas signed the official minutes and received congratulations. Accompanied by his wife, he accepted felicitations from various people, including representatives of the country's House of Representatives (DPR).
Regarding the inauguration, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi conveyed a message from President Prabowo, urging him to work for the nation and the state. He also expressed gratitude for Thomas’s service during his tenure as Vice Minister of Finance.

“The message from the President is to continue working for the interests of the nation and the state, for the red and white, for the Indonesian people whom we love, whatever our duties may be,” Prasetyo said at a separate press conference in Jakarta's Merdeka Palace complex.
"On this occasion, we would also like to express our gratitude for his dedication during his service as Vice Minister of Finance, and now as he continues his mandate as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, this is no small duty or responsibility," he continued.
Thomas was inaugurated following approval from the DPR two weeks earlier. He was formally appointed through a presidential decree, signed by Prabowo on 3 February.
His appointment was initially controversial because of his relationship with Prabowo as a nephew, and his position at Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra Party) as treasurer general since 2010. However, before the members of the DPR, he stated that he had resigned from the party's treasurer position following his deputy governor nomination.
Thomas previously completed a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C., United States. He later worked as a financial analyst, consultant, and director at several companies.
He served as Vice Minister of Finance from 2024 during the presidency of Joko Widodo until 2026, when he resigned due to his nomination. He replaces the previous deputy, Juda Agung, who has now become Vice Minister of Finance.
Thomas is now one of four deputy governors of the central bank. Other deputy governors are Aida S. Budiman, Filianingsih Hendarta, and Ricky P. Gozali.
