RRI.CO.ID, Taipei – The Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) in Taipei is encouraging the Indonesian diaspora in Taiwan to play an active role in boosting exports of Indonesian MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) products. This role can be realized by joining the ecosystem of the Ministry of Trade's "UMKM BISA Ekspor" (MSMEs CAN Export) program.
This was stated virtually by the Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, Fajarini Puntodewi, at the opening of the "UMKM BISA Ekspor Workshop and Business Matching" event in Taipei on Sunday, February 1, 2026. This activity was organized by KDEI Taipei in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and the Export Easy Academy (Akademi Mudah Ekspor - AME) from February 1-2, 2026.
Puntodewi emphasized that the diaspora is expected to become a bridge connecting Indonesian MSMEs with potential consumers in Taiwan. "We hope the enthusiasm of the diaspora can become part of the UMKM BISA Ekspor movement," she said.
The UMKM BISA Ekspor program is focused on promoting local products to the global market. Throughout 2025, the program has facilitated 622 business explorations with a transaction value reaching USD 134.87 million.
The Head of KDEI Taipei, Arif Sulistiyo, stated that this activity is part of an MSME trade mission to Taiwan. Its goal is to connect MSMEs with potential buyers while opening opportunities for the diaspora to enter the export ecosystem.
A special diaspora workshop titled "Realize the Dream of Becoming an Exporter of Indonesian Products in Taiwan" was attended by 50 participants. They received training on export opportunities and marketing strategies.
The business matching session on February 1 yielded a potential transaction value of USD 357 thousand, equivalent to IDR 5.98 billion. A total of 24 MSMEs fostered by AME met with 20 prospective potential buyers from Taiwan.
The products offered were diverse, ranging from snacks, spices, coffee, to handicrafts and organic fertilizer. Arif assessed that this positive response could contribute to increased exports.
Taiwan is an important trading partner with a positive demand trend for Indonesian food products. Indonesia's food and beverage exports to Taiwan in 2025 reached USD 75.93 million, growing by 6.03%.
