RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving transparency in Indonesia’s capital market, including issues related to free float share proportions. He made the statement during the Indonesia Economic Summit 2026 in Jakarta on 3 February 2026, amid concerns over a potential downgrade by global index provider Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).

Purbaya further said the government and market regulators are taking the necessary steps to meet MSCI’s requirements before the May 2026 deadline. He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s capital market would remain resilient by aligning its policies with international standards.

“I think the government and every market regulator have taken the right approach to show that before May this year, we will satisfy what MSCI wanted. And I think my country should be fine. We will follow and adhere to global best practices,” he stated.

Although the Ministry of Finance is not directly involved in the governance of capital market boards, Purbaya stressed that the government continues to play a strategic role in steering the national economy. He noted that sound fiscal management and policy coordination remain key priorities.

“We will satisfy all of MSCI's requirements, all the things MSCI wanted, including basic transparency. For me, as Minister of Finance, I'm not too involved with what's happening in the boards, but I focus on ensuring the economy is moving in the right direction,” he said.

The minister also said that the government is ensuring timely public spending during the first and second quarters of the year, while also maintaining sufficient market liquidity. These measures, he conveyed, are expected to support economic momentum and improve investor confidence.

Previously, MSCI announced a temporary freeze on several index-related actions, a move that affected global investor sentiment toward Indonesia’s stock market. In response, the government, together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), is working to improve the accuracy of free float data, clarify share ownership structures, and strengthen disclosure and reporting mechanisms in line with global market standards.
