RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) head Ahmad Haikal Hasan has called for faster implementation and simplified policies, particularly at the regional level, to strengthen Indonesia’s halal ecosystem from local to national levels.
“To catch up with countries that have strong halal ecosystems, simplification and acceleration strategies are crucial,” Haikal said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He urged stakeholders at both the central and regional levels to pursue bold breakthroughs by learning from countries such as China, Brazil, and the United States, which he said had successfully implemented halal values.
Haikal said the three countries had recognized decades ago that halal products would become an engine of economic growth.
He added that their success was inseparable from global dynamics, in which halal has transformed into a symbol of modern civilization.
In countries such as South Korea and Russia, halal is understood as a “double clean” standard, an elite food category reflecting high quality and contributing to customer satisfaction.
In this context, BPJPH continues to promote concrete regional programs to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global halal producer.
These efforts include accelerating halal certification to ensure compliance from upstream to downstream sectors.
“President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that Indonesia must stand on its own two feet and be economically sovereign. We must not become merely a market,” Haikal said.
He added that halal must be positioned as a primary driver of national economic growth, rather than viewed solely as regulatory or religious compliance.
This approach, he said, aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita national development agenda, particularly in strengthening economic self-reliance, value-added industrialization and regional development. ***
