RI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed optimism about Indonesia’s economic outlook amid global uncertainty. Global volatility is expected to remain low, with limited potential for stronger global growth.

Speaking at the Indonesia Fiscal Forum 2026 at the Thamrin Nine Ballroom, Tuesday (27/01/2026), the Finance Minister explained that global factors are not the main determinant of Indonesia’s economic performance. Around 90 percent of Indonesia’s economic growth is driven by domestic demand, while global contributions account for only about 10–20 percent. Therefore, a global economic slowdown should not be used as an excuse for weak domestic economic performance.

“If 90 percent of our growth comes from domestic demand and only 10 percent or more from global factors—at most maybe 15–20 percent—then as long as domestic demand exists, there should be no problem,” Purbaya said in an official statement.

Indonesia’s domestic conditions are considered fairly solid. Inflation has been recorded at a low level of around 2.9 percent, with core inflation at approximately 2.3 percent. Even excluding the gold price component, inflation is estimated to be only about 1.5 percent. This indicates that demand pressures remain well controlled and have not triggered economic overheating.

“So in fact, demand is still relatively low. There is no core demand inflation yet, meaning I can push the economy to a faster pace without worrying about a significant interest rate hike by the central bank due to rising inflation,” Purbaya explained.

National economic growth has also shown a positive trend, with realizations ranging between 5.0 and 5.4 percent over the past several quarters. The Finance Minister believes there is still room to push economic growth higher without triggering interest rate increases.

To further stimulate the economy, the government is relying on a debottlenecking strategy to improve the investment climate. Through regular cross-ministerial forums, various business obstacles faced by investors are expected to be resolved swiftly and in a measurable manner.

With improved fiscal performance, optimized tax and customs revenues, and controlled budget deficits, the government remains optimistic that Indonesia’s economy will continue to grow sustainably.

“I am optimistic about the economy and the stock market this year. You should not wait any longer to invest or expand your business,” the Finance Minister concluded.
