RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), framing it as a strategic step in national economic reform. The effort is being advanced through close cooperation with the private sector and international partners.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stressed that the private sector plays a vital role in driving Indonesia’s transformation toward global economic standards. He said OECD accession is not merely a technical process but a crucial step in strengthening the country’s economic governance.
“OECD accession is a national priority and part of the foundation for Golden Indonesia 2045,” Minister Airlangga said when opening the Kadin Indonesia x Growth Gateway Roundtable at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) office in London on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The forum brought together the Indonesian and British governments, Kadin Indonesia, and international business leaders to discuss the future direction of economic policy. The event also bolstered investor confidence in Indonesia.
Minister Airlangga expressed appreciation for the support of the British government and BCG, noting their active role in assisting Indonesia throughout the accession process. He said cross-sectoral collaboration would accelerate inclusive growth. “Through close collaboration between the government, business actors, and global partners, Indonesia is optimistic that it can ensure sustainable growth,” he added.
British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey described the meeting as a significant milestone following the UK–Indonesia Strategic Partnership agreement, which strengthens bilateral economic cooperation.
On the same occasion, Minister Airlangga was also scheduled to sign the UK–Indonesia Economic Growth Partnership (EGP), part of efforts to deepen economic ties between the two countries.
From the business community, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Advisor Hashim Djojohadikusumo said Indonesia’s large economy requires strong support to sustain rapid growth.
Kadin Chairman Anindya N. Bakrie emphasized that the private sector is ready to contribute to accelerating OECD accession. Geopolitical and trade expert Tim Figures shared insights on how several countries successfully escaped the middle-income trap through OECD membership.
Kadin Deputy Chair Shinta W. Kamdani added that it is essential for the business community to understand the positive implications of accession for national competitiveness.
The meeting marked the official launch of private sector involvement in supporting Indonesia’s OECD accession. The initiative was facilitated by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and the Growth Gateway Programme, serving as a platform to strengthen cross-border economic dialogue. ***
