KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia has the potential to become a leading player in the global halal industry supply chain by building a strong and integrated national halal ecosystem. This crucial role involves collaboration between the government, business actors, and other relevant parties.
Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, explained that halal has now transformed into an economic force that drives global trade growth, not just related to religious compliance. “In many countries, halal is seen as a standard of quality, safety, and health,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
The rapid development of the halal industry is occurring in various sectors, ranging from food to fashion, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and tourism. The demand for halal products is continuously increasing as people become more aware of and adapt to a halal lifestyle.
Haikal highlighted the significance of strategic partnerships between the government and businesses, particularly the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), to expand the halal ecosystem. This partnership aims to accelerate the MSME certification process and increase the domestic product's competitiveness in the global arena.
Haikal also emphasizes the importance of information transparency to consumers so that certified halal products must include a halal label, while non-halal products must be labeled as non-halal. This is to provide certainty and protection to consumers and business actors alike.
“The halal economy can only grow if the certainty, trust, and protection of consumers work together,” he said.
Haikal is optimistic that with all stakeholders' collaboration, Indonesia can realize its vision as a global halal center and make the halal economy a key driver of inclusive and sustainable national development. ***
