KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has strengthened its commitment to supporting smallholder farmers and micro-enterprises by exporting 15 tons of premium Arabica coffee from Mount Argopuro, Situbondo, East Java, to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Valued at approximately IDR 3 billion (USD 181,818), the shipment highlights Indonesia's growing role in the global specialty coffee market and the capacity of local MSMEs to compete internationally.

The export comes from local coffee farmer groups based on the slopes of Mount Argopuro. The shipment was flagged off by Deputy Minister for Business at the MSMEs Ministry, Bagus Rachman, along with Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo and Deputy Regent Ulfiyah.

“This export proves that our MSMEs are capable of competing globally. Indonesia is one of the world’s largest coffee producers, with over 90 percent of plantations managed by smallholder farmers,” said Bagus during the launch in Situbondo on Monday, October 6, 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He emphasized that the Argopuro coffee export is not merely symbolic, but a concrete example of how the MSME sector in agriculture contributes significantly to Indonesia’s national exports.

Bagus also highlighted the diversity and uniqueness of Indonesian coffee varieties, many of which fall under the specialty coffee category and command premium prices in global markets.

“Argopuro coffee serves as a shining example of how medium-sized enterprises can become a driving force for the MSME ecosystem,” he added.

Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo expressed his appreciation to the local coffee farming communities, especially those cultivating coffee on the 1,800 meter-high slopes of Mount Argopuro. He urged local youth to consider coffee farming as a viable and promising career.

“My message, especially to the younger generation, is to understand that their future is in their own hands. The government's role is merely to provide the necessary instruments, what I call an 'intermediary channel',” said Yusuf. ***
