KBRN, Jakarta: Women face several challenges in pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). On the Voice of Indonesia program, VOI Talk, Tuesday (11/2/2025), a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Research Center for Geological Disaster, Dr. Nuraini Rahma Hanifa, highlighted three major challenges faced by women.

According to Dr. Nuraini, these challenges are family responsibilities, workplace or university environments, and motherhood. She emphasized that both family and workplace settings should support women’s involvement in STEM by providing opportunities for them to be heard and grow.

Regarding motherhood, Dr. Nuraini pointed out that women should be allowed to care for their children while still contributing to the STEM field. This makes access to daycare services and maternity leave essential for women’s continued participation.
