Indonesia Strengthens Cultural Preservation Efforts in Pulau Penyengat

KBRN, Tanjung Pinang: Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, emphasized the significance of Pulau Penyengat’s cultural heritage during his official visit to Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, on March 10, 2025, as part of his efforts to promote cultural preservation and development. Accompanied by Riau Islands Governor Anshar Ahmad, he visited the Regional Cultural Preservation Office (BPK) Region IV and highlighted the need for safeguarding both tangible and intangible heritage, including underwater cultural sites. He then traveled to Pulau Penyengat, where he paid respects at the tombs of national heroes, inspected historical sites such as Rumah Raja Daud, and reviewed original Malay manuscripts at the Malay Cultural Information Center. Minister Fadli underscored the importance of cultural-based economic initiatives, advocating for stronger collaboration between the government, private sector, and cultural practitioners to ensure the island’s heritage is preserved and globally recognized.
