KBRN, Jakarta: The Government of Japan has implemented the JENESYS Program (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths), which aims to deepen mutual understanding between Japan and various countries and regions, including Indonesia. This program invites promising young individuals to Japan to learn about various aspects, including politics, economy, society, culture, history, and Japan’s foreign policy.

From February 18 to 25, 2025, a total of 16 young participants from Indonesia’s maritime security and fisheries monitoring agencies visited Japan as part of this program. They attended lectures delivered by officials from the Fisheries Agency and the Japan Coast Guard and visited a fisheries research vessel operated by the Fisheries Agency of Japan.

In addition to training activities, they also participated in a homestay program and experienced Japanese culture in Hokkaido, the northernmost prefecture of Japan. On February 25, the day of their return, the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia held a welcoming ceremony and a presentation of activity reports from their time in Japan, attended by all 16 participants, the Deputy Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Nagai, and other staff from the Japanese Embassy.

In an official statement from the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia received in Jakarta on Monday (March 3, 2025), it was stated that through this program, young administrative officers, who will be responsible for maritime safety and security in the future in both Japan and Indonesia, have directly experienced the strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Additionally, they are determined to become leaders in their respective institutions in the future. The exchange and cooperation between Japan and Indonesia in the maritime sector will continue to develop in the coming years.
